TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

The feast of the Holy Spirit is solemnly observed in the liturgy of the Catholic Church. This holyday is commonly known as Pentecost. The customs and observances of Pentecost are the remainder of customs originated in the Old Testament, characterized by their great festivity and joy. The faithful wish to regenerate the atmosphere of those bygone days, when Christ fulfilled His promise given to the Apostles and sent down the Holy Spirit in the form of tongues of fire.
To this day in Poland, the churches, homesteads and yards are decorated with small birch trees and fragrant calamus is put in windows and spread over floors. The sweet scent of May is everywhere, in churches, homes, and homesteads.
